The Audition and PreparationA Girlchoir audition takes about 10 minutes and is comprised of singing "America the Beautiful" a cappella in the key of B flat, imitating tonal sequences, and sight reading melodies of simple to medium difficulty a cappella. Younger singers will be evaluated for potential. We will be listening for the ability to match pitch, sing with a clear and natural tone quality, sight-read several easy to medium difficulty melodies, accurately reproduce melodic patterns, maintain your part while singing a canon, and demonstrate an adequate range. Admission into the Premier Choir as a singer new to Girlchoir requires a fine ear and strong music reading skills. To prepare, practice singing the first verse of "America the Beautiful" a cappella in the key of B flat, starting on F. No other preparation is needed. Previous piano or other instrumental lessons are helpful. Choir placement:

Application InformationPortland Symphonic Girlchoir processes applications for each season through September. Auditions will be held May-September and will be scheduled upon receipt of completed applications. You may contact the office with questions at 503.226.6162 or singer@girlchoir.com PSG requires commitment of both singers and parents. Volunteer participation is an important part of joining the Girlchoir family. In addition to weekly rehearsals, the choirs participate in several concerts and outreach activities throughout the year as well as workshops and social events.
